Livery Companies and Their Modern Function

Mr Graham Skinner

The town of Princes Risborough nestles under the Chiltern Hills on the ancient trackway of the Icknield Way. The Ridgeway Path from Avebury to Ivinghoe Beacon passes within a mile of the town. Countrywide there are approximately 770 U3As catering for nearly 250,000 people. They are self-help organisations for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment. They are part of the "Life Long Learning" initiative.

Princes Risborough & District U3A was founded in 2001 and is the U3A for the HP27 postcode area. The main monthly General Meeting (open to Full Members only because of restrictions on the number of people allowed into the hall) is held on the second Tuesday of the month in the Risborough Community Centre. The 29 Groups (which are open to Full and Associate Members) cover subjects from Antiques and Collectables to Wildlife and meet at various places and times throughout the month - see the Group pages for further information.
