Golf Day offered at 50% + discount
Princes Risborough Golf Club is offering excellent value golf days to U3A Groups in February and March. The offer includes coffee & biscuits, 18 holes of golf and a lunch of hand-cut sandwiches and chips – all this at the special price of just £12 a head instead of the usual £28.
The offer is only available to groups and would need someone to arrange it with Risborough Golf Club manager Nick Shaw – telephone 01844 346989 or e-mail at Nick.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nick can be contacted at any time and would be pleased to answer any questions.
Surely there are enough golfers in our U3A to take advantage of this offer or even set up a Golf Group!

I am pleased to let you know that Eric Midwinter, one of our founders, has been asked to speak on the Radio 4 programme, “You and Yours” at lunchtime on Monday 12th December in recognition of achieving 1000 U3As. This was the programme where the U3A concept was first aired by Eric all those years ago in 1981.
I thought you may want to know in case you wish to tune in. Please let your members know too. Should you be unable to listen at that time it will be available in the episodes section of the You and Yours area of the BBC website http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qps9

Our new Badminton Group met for the first time on Wednesday 25 February. The evening proved an outstanding success, with 18 members turning up to have a go.
Thank you to all who have expressed an interest in the proposed Science & Technology (S&T) Group. I have tried to take on board the availability of those who have let me know, plus that of a suitable venue, and (sticking a pin in the calendar & map!) have come up with a monthly meeting at 10-12 am on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in the Lower Hall of the Baptist Church. So far 22 members have responded to Peter Dixon’s proposal to set up a U3A Badminton Group. An initial “taster session” has now been arranged at the new Community Sports Centre at Princes Risborough School. This will be on Wednesday 25 February from 6 pm to 7 pm, with a short meeting afterwards to discuss the way forward.
Peter is planning to say a few words about this at our next Monthly General Meeting on Tuesday 10 February. If you can’t come to that but would like more information, please contact Peter by e-mail at
Gill Wilkinson has proposed to set up a new Rummikub Group.
Rummikub is a strategic numbers game using tiles and is played vaguely along the same lines as the card game Rummy. It is a fast action game where the outcome is undecided until the last play and has a never-ending variety of strategies and play situations.
The initial meeting is planned for Tuesday 6 January at 10 am. The plan is to have weekly meetings at first to see how the group progresses. Gill will be hosting these meetings at her home – 77 Stratton Road, Princes Risborough.
If you are interested in attending please phone Gill on 01844 346145
On Sunday the Chiltern Society will be organising a local Family Treasure Hunt at our wonderful Brush Hill and Whiteleaf Hill sites.
We will do some wildlife scavenging, hunting for signs of wildlife, maybe make a monster…… It will be an ideal way to blow away the cobwebs and maybe bring the grandchildren.
After a short introduction, everyone will go off and hunt for wildlife, collecting photos, descriptions, samples such as feathers – anything that doesn’t involve damaging living wildlife. Continue reading Chiltern Society Family Wildlife Treasure Hunt
