Our Christmas celebrations had been planned for Tuesday 12 December. Unfortunately severe winter weather intervened and the committee were left with no option but to cancel at short notice and arrange refunds for all members who had bought tickets. These will be available at the January meeting.
On Friday 3 November we held another quiz evening in St Mary’s church hall. This was an excellent evening – 80 members made up 10 teams who competed with determination. Continue reading Quiz Evening
On Friday 29 September we held a well-attended fun event for members to join a table to play ‘Beetle’ – a game requiring no skill but just a quick dice throw and a bit of luck. Each round the highest and lowest scorers moved on to other tables and off we went again. Continue reading Beetle Drive
On Monday 17th July we held a social event to introduce new members to the organisation, to group leaders and committee members, and to each other. We began with a light-hearted game to encourage everyone to circulate and talk to people. Several of the group leaders spoke briefly about their groups. Of course, there was tea and coffee and cake. It was an opportunity to talk face to face with people and quite a few members left thinking they might try a group they hadn’t considered before.
All the new members were invited and those who were not able to attend are warmly invited to come to the next new members get-together, which will be held on Thursday 4 January 2018.
Craft Activity Workshops
On 29 March the Social Team organised this morning of Easter-themed craft activities in the form of two workshops led by Sally from Sally’s Sewing Box and her daughter Alice, who provided all the necessary making materials. Continue reading Easter Craft Morning
A very successful New Members Coffee Morning was held on Wednesday November 26th at the Community Centre, Carrington Room. About 40 new members attended as well as several committee members and group Leaders. Members were able to socialize and talk to Group Leaders about their group’s activities. Refreshments were served throughout the morning.
Some festive Music welcomed us in, and this provided a pleasant ambiance within the room. Friends greeted each other, and found their places – some had reserved a table.
The meeting started with a talk by Roger Shaw about the 14th Century Chinese Civilization and Culture. Evidence points to the fact that they were in America before the times of Christopher Columbus. A very interesting, shorter than usual, talk which surprised those in charge of food, and sent us galloping to the kitchen to heat up the Mince Pies. Lively and Informative Meeting
A good gathering of new members enjoyed coffee and some festive refreshments in the company of group leaders and committee members. We had changed the format this year, with just a short introduction and no formal presentations, leaving members free to mingle and find out what our various groups have to offer.
June Brazier from our Social Committee reported a good turnout and plenty of enquiries from new members to the various group leaders. Those we spoke to were a friendly bunch who found the meeting very informative and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. June would like to thank all those who attended and especially all who helped with the refreshments as well as putting out tables and clearing away afterwards.
