Our meeting on Wednesday, 16th October, was the first with our new Leader Eileen Heyes and the subject was Fairs and Festivals..

Eileen started the afternoon by showing our programme for the next six months. Geoff then read snippets from various newspapers regarding food and wine and asked members to cut out any interesting articles they see in the newspapers and bring them along to share with the group.

Eileen gave us a few tips using ice cubes e.g. for easy watering of hanging baskets and removing fat from stews.

There are many Fairs and Festivals throughout the year and Eileen described some interesting ones

  • Tavistock Goosy Fair
  • Chertsey Black Cherry Fair
  • Whistable Oyster Festival
  • Pershaw Plum Festival
  • Asparagus Festival held in the Vale of Evesham Cheese Festival, Caerphilly Castle
  • Dalesman Mansion Marmalade Festival, near Penrith, Cumbria

At our November meeting Richard Baker and Phil Gander will talk about Fortified Wines, with maybe a few tastings, and give us ideas for the festive season.

For December we will be enjoying a French cusine buffet with members providing the various foods.

New members are always made very welcome at this lively and friendly group.
