Food & Wine – December 2015

A German Buffet was the theme for our afternoon meeting on Wednesday, 16th December. Geoff started the afternoon with a talk about how the people in Germany celebrate their Christmas period which commences about 5th December.

The German Buffet followed with:

Starters

Savoury Black Forest Shortbread,  O’batzen cream cheese and Smoked Mackerel with apple/horseradish on sourdough.

This was followed by Bratwurst in a small roll with mustard and a delicious soup Gulaschsuppe with German bread.

Red and white wine from the Baden region in the southwest of Germany was served with the buffet –  with soft drinks  available for those who preferred them.

Desserts

Black Forest Cherry Cake,  Spicy Apple Cake and  Apple & Apricot Strudel slices,  with a glass of Gewürztraminer – a lightly sweet white wine, again from the Baden region.

Tea and Coffee were served with pieces of Stollen.

Members made most of the items on the buffet, but our thanks must go to Eileen and Geoff for all their hard work in planning and presenting an excellent afternoon for everyone to enjoy.

In January 2016, the subject for the afternoon will be Bread.  Two of the men have already agreed to prepare white bread with a difference and members were invited to make or buy samples of bread from other countries.

We are a happy, friendly group and if you would like to join us you would be made very welcome.
