36 members of the History and Travel Groups enjoyed a sociable Christmas Lunch at the Three Crowns at Askett on 2 December, and a good choice of menu meant that turkey was not obligatory! The food was much enjoyed and one person (no names mentioned, Arthur) was silver tongued enough to obtain a second helping of Christmas Pudding. The light was beginning to fade when the event finally broke up and members staggered out of the door – not through excess of alcohol, but from a highly satisfying and substantial meal.
A reservation for the whole restaurant has already been made for next year, so hopefully we will be able to avoid this year’s disappointment for some of not being able to attend due to limited space. It does pay to get in early with a booking, and some members have been very quick to put their names down for next year.
