Music Appreciation report on 24th August 2016 meeting

Peter Willett gave a presentation on the theme of “Music with meteorological connections”

The first half of the programme consisted of;

Vivaldi’s Spring Concerto, 1st and 2nd movements;

Judy Garland singing “Somewhere over the rainbow”;

Matt McGranaghan playing his arrangement of “Somewhere over the rainbow” on his fiddle;

Kevin Lee playing his arrangement of “Somewhere over the rainbow” on his harp;

The 4th and 5th movements of Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony;

All three movements of Vivaldi’s Summer concerto.

The second half of the programme consisted of;

The 1st and 2nd movements of Vivaldi’s Autumn Concerto;

The 3rd movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No 17, “The Tempest”;

Christina Matthews singing “I sit in the sun” from Salad Days;

“Here comes the sun” played on Pan Pipes;

The “Thunder and Lightening Polka” by Johann Strauss  Junior, and finally

the 1st and 2nd movements of Vivaldi’s Winter Concerto.
