U3A Jazz Appreciation Group – August 2015 Meeting

Today I attempted to cover for the group just some of the vast number of groups that sprang up from 1943 on wards.

We started with George Webb who recorded from 1943 to 1947, and from his group came many who were to follow him and achieve even greater fame.

From such a large recording history, it was only possible in the time available, to sample some of the many groups active until the rise of the Beatles and the end of the Trad Boom.

But we did cover early Humph, Ken Colyer, Alex Welsh and groups from Avon, Birmingham, Lancashire, Scotland and Yorkshire as well as the South East.
