Visit to Batsford Arboretum, Moreton in Marsh October 20th

After a rather drizzly start to our coach journey, we (41 people) managed to avoid the travel chaos in Oxford to have a pleasant journey through the Cotswolds to Batsford Arboretum near Moreton in Marsh.  The weather brightened and the sun came out so that we could enjoy the wonderful Autumn colours of the leaves.  The arboretum is a most lovely place with the added historical interest of being linked to the famous Mitford family.  Walking through the vibrant reds and yellows of the trees, especially the Acers and Ginkos, in the warm Autumn sunshine was truly magical.  This calm and restful atmosphere was enhanced by the oriental statuary, the lovely lakes and landscaping with an eight foot high Buddha being an unusual feature in an English setting.  Both the restaurant and plant nursery sales areas were excellent and we all said we would very much like to return.  An easy journey home completed a most enjoyable day.
