Our Committee for 2017/2018
Ray Marshall – Vice Chairman
Ray is a Londoner by birth. He moved to Risborough with his wife Monica in 1971 and then to Longwick in 1978. He had a career as a financial accountant, working for Aston & Full in Mill Lane, Monks Risborough for a number of years until they moved to Wales in 2005. Ray then worked for the NHS before taking early retirement during the 2010 restructuring.
In addition to his U3A membership, Ray is a member of Princes Risborough and District Community Association (PRCA) and is a Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator for his road in Longwick. He is aalso a volunteer House Host at Waddesdon Manor, usually on a Saturday.
Richard Jones – Treasurer and PReVIEW Editor
Richard and his wife Jill were members of Chiltern U3A before moving to Risborough in late 2013 and joining this U3A the following year. Between them, they now attend meetings of nine groups, some even together!
Richard was a science teacher in Hertfordshire for nearly forty years, principally as a chemist with a specialist interest in pyrotechnics and explosives. He was Secretary of Amersham Gardening Association for eight years.
After retiring as an Assistant Headteacher in 2007, there were various voluntary jobs: farm hand at the Chiltern Open Air Museum, database clerk for a medical charity and helper with the Riding for the Disabled Association, the last continuing to this day. Some sunny weekends, he can now be seen as a crossing keeper on the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway or even working in the Chinnor signal box.
Richard took on his first U3A job as Editor of PReVIEW in October 2015 and has now added to his workload by becoming Treasurer as well!
Angela Wall – Speaker Secretary
Angela has lived in Princes Risborough for 19 years and been a member of Risborough U3A for 9 years. She is the Group Leader of the Gardening group and also a member of the Walking group. In addition to gardening and walking, her interests include wildlife conservation, science, books, theatre, travel, archaeology, languages and music. Her career was in biological sciences with jobs in plant breeding research, lecturing and teaching. She currently works as a part-time tutor for the Open University. Having served on numerous committees and management teams, she is looking forward to working with fellow committee members to further progress our excellent U3A.
Eleanor McGregor – Group Leaders’ Co-ordinator
Eleanor is seen mainly at the badminton and walking groups, but has attended others. She first joined U3A in Sussex a number of years ago, before moving to Risborough at the end of 2014 to be closer to her family. Her working life was spent in the NHS, now a very different place!
Leaving the old behind and starting afresh has been a positive experience due to the friendliness of U3A members
Cathy Whiteway – Social Events Organiser
Cathy has been a teacher for most of her working life, including the last 15 years at Princes Risborough School (known by many as the “top school”), where she was head of History. She has four children, but is still “grandchildren-free”. Cathy lives in Chinnor, but has joined Risborough U3A in order to play table tennis, which she is really enjoying.
