Despite the cold weather we had a good turnout for our first meeting of 2018 and were pleased to welcome a couple of new members to our group. We aimed to start the year healthily so Geoff Heyes described some tips to make our everyday, staple foods as nutritious as possible. The talk was largely based on a book by James Wong, which outlines how we can use “kitchen science” to transform our everyday eating and get the most out of our food intake. Thankfully the word ‘diet’ didn’t feature in the talk!
As usual we had to taste something at the end and Eileen had worked hard in the kitchen to come up with some tasty food using recipes from the book, including a roasted cherry tomato sauce served on sourdough toast with rocket leaves, a sweet potato pie (with purple sweet potato) and baked apple skins.
We have had to change the venue for our lunch out next month and will now be meeting at Duke’s Wine Bar at 12.30 pm on Wednesday 21 February. A £5 deposit and your menu choice will be needed in advance.
