The Garden Group visited Exbury Gardens in the New Forest on Monday, 20th May, 2013. There was not the sun we had hoped for but it was a pleasant comfortable temperature and, thank goodness, none of that cold wind.
Forty people left at 8.30 a.m. and arrived in the gardens at 11 a.m. I think it is possible to say that everyone was absolutely overcome by the colour – just as the photograph above – there is so much colour it is almost unbelievable and the whole day is needed to get round the very large area.
I am told a visitor once described Exbury as “Heaven with the gates open” and this is certainly not an exaggeration.
There was also two very good restaurants. We left at 4 p.m. and arrived home shortly after 6pm – everyone agreed a thoroughly enjoyable day.
The next Garden Group event is Open Gardens in Monks Risborough on Monday, 17th June, 2013, where 7 gardens will be open from 2.00pm – 5.00 pm with refreshments and plant sales.
Could Associate Members please collect a map from Anne Legg – please ring first to make sure she is in.
Looking forward to seeing you ALL on the 17th June.
