The Philosophy of Science – Peggy Verrall

Peggy gave a stimulating talk on the philosophy of science, relating both disciplines to a search for truth, but which could not be disentangled from sociological factors and consensus.

She cited the work of such luminaries as Thomas Kuhn (paradigm shifts of understanding), Alfred Ayer (logical positivism), Karl Popper (empirical falsification), Galileo Galilei (science vs. religion), Albert Einstein (inexplicability of the secrets of nature), Thomas Bayes (attempts to establish statistical evidence for cause & effect), the experiments of Stanley Milgrom (psychological conditioning), & Daniel Dennett (analytic philosophy).
